DeleteIt vs DaisyDisk: which Mac disk tool fits you?

DaisyDisk is a fast, well-designed disk analyzer with a colorful visual map, APFS snapshot and purgeable space management and cloud storage scanning, sold as a one-time US$9.99 license. DeleteIt groups what it finds — exact duplicates, caches, logs and installers, app leftovers and more — by category, size and safety level, and moves only the items you confirm to the Trash. Both are one-time purchases; the difference is how you find and remove files.

When to choose DeleteIt

  • You want ready-made categories — verified exact duplicates, caches, logs and installers, app leftovers — instead of exploring a map folder by folder.
  • You prefer cleanup that moves items to the Trash, so you can still restore them before emptying it.
  • You want each result labeled with a safety level before you confirm.
  • You want a free scan first, then a lifetime license (US$19, currently US$9.90 launch price) for unlimited automatic cleanup.

When to choose DaisyDisk

  • You want the best visual disk map to explore where your space goes.
  • You need to manage APFS snapshots and purgeable space, or scan cloud storage such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and Box.
  • You want a low one-time price (US$9.99) and a tool that doesn't collect or transmit data.
  • Your Mac runs macOS 10.13 to 13 (DeleteIt requires macOS 14 or later).

Frequently asked questions

Does DaisyDisk find duplicate files?

No. DaisyDisk's official FAQ says it does not detect duplicate files. DeleteIt finds verified exact duplicates as one of its scan categories.

Does DaisyDisk move files to the Trash?

No. According to DaisyDisk's guide, it deletes files permanently instead of moving them to the Trash, by design, so the disk space is actually recovered; you collect items first and get a 5-second window to cancel. DeleteIt's normal flow moves the items you confirm to the Trash and does not empty it.

Are DeleteIt and DaisyDisk both one-time purchases?

Yes. DaisyDisk is a US$9.99 lifetime license. DeleteIt's scan is free and its lifetime license is US$19 (currently US$9.90 launch price). Neither is a subscription.

Do I need an admin password?

DeleteIt does not ask for sudo or an admin password; Full Disk Access is only needed for the optional extended scope. DaisyDisk offers an optional Scan as Administrator mode to view restricted folders.

Can I use both?

Yes, they don't conflict. You could use DaisyDisk's map to see where space goes and DeleteIt to review duplicates, caches and app leftovers by category.
